Hafidh Ameir Hassan’s Death
Hafidh Ameir Hassan died on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Tanzania’s Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi announced his death, saying Ameir died at 8am at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar.
According to Ndejembi, Ameir had been receiving treatment for a heart condition before his death.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Mr Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan,” Ndejembi said.
The Vice President conveyed condolences to President Samia, her family, relatives and friends, as well as the people of Tanzania.
Funeral arrangements were underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar, following his death.
Kenya’s President William Ruto was among regional leaders who mourned Ameir’s death.
