WhatsApp allows users to pin important messages in group chats so they remain easy to find at the top of the conversation. Learning how to pin a message on WhatsApp Group can be useful when sharing announcements, phone numbers, meeting details, payment information or other important updates. WhatsApp currently allows up to four messages to be pinned in a chat, with available pin durations of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days.

Open the WhatsApp Group
Start by opening WhatsApp on your phone or computer.
Find the group where you want to pin the message and open the conversation.

Scroll through the group conversation until you find the important message.
It can be a message you sent or, where group permissions allow it, a message sent by another member.

Select the Message
On your phone, press and hold the message you want to pin.
A menu with different options will appear. Look for the Pin option.
On WhatsApp Web or desktop, hover over the message, open the message menu and select Pin.

Choose How Long to Pin the Message
WhatsApp allows you to select how long the message should remain pinned.
You can normally choose:
- 24 hours
- 7 days
- 30 days
Select the duration that suits your needs and confirm the action.

Confirm the Pinned Message
After confirming, the message will appear as a pinned banner at the top of the group chat.
Group members can use the pinned message banner to quickly find the original message in the conversation.

Check Group Permissions
If you do not see the option to pin a message, the group may have restrictions on who can pin messages.
Group admins can choose whether members are allowed to pin messages by adjusting the group’s permissions.
If you are a group admin, open the group information, select Group permissions and check the relevant setting.

Pinning is especially useful for information that group members may need to access repeatedly.
You can pin things such as:

Avoid pinning too many messages when possible so important information remains easy to find.

Unpin a Message
You can remove a pinned message before its selected duration expires.
Open the pinned message’s menu and select Unpin.
The message will no longer appear in the pinned-message banner.

Know What Happens When You Pin a Message
When a message is pinned in a WhatsApp group, WhatsApp shares a system notification in the chat showing that a message was pinned and who pinned it.
A person who joins the group later may not be able to see a previously pinned message if it was sent before they joined or if the message is no longer available in their chat history.
