Georgia Lee Wareham is an Australian international cricketer known for her right-arm leg-spin bowling and right-handed batting as an all-rounder.
Born on 26 May 1999 in Terang, Victoria, she grew up in the nearby country town of Mortlake, about two-and-a-half hours west of Melbourne.
Inspired from a young age by Victorian and Australian spin legend Shane Warne, she developed her craft through backyard games and local boys’ cricket before progressing through Victoria’s elite pathways.
She has represented Australia across all formats since her debuts in 2018.
Wareham plays domestically for Victoria and the Melbourne Renegades in the Women’s Big Bash League, while also featuring in overseas competitions such as the Women’s Premier League in India and The Hundred in England.
Siblings
Georgia has one sibling, an older brother named Jordan Wareham, who works as a disc jockey.
The two grew up playing competitive backyard cricket in Mortlake, where she would often bowl to him while imagining herself as Shane Warne or other stars.
These sibling battles, along with games involving cousins Isaac and Lachlan, helped shape her early skills and competitive edge.
Jordan has remained a supportive figure in her life, contributing to a positive family environment that encouraged her cricket development.
Career
Wareham began her professional journey as the youngest player in the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League season of 2015-16 when she signed with the Melbourne Renegades, remaining a foundation member of the side ever since.

She advanced through Victoria’s under-age teams and made a strong impression on an Australia Under-19 tour of South Africa in 2018, taking nine wickets including figures of 4/17.
That same year she earned senior international selection, making her Women’s Twenty20 International debut against New Zealand on 29 September 2018 at North Sydney Oval.
She followed that with her One-Day International debut against Pakistan on 18 October 2018 in Kuala Lumpur.
She played a key role in Australia’s 2018 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup victory in the West Indies, including important contributions in the final against England.
She added further T20 World Cup titles in 2020 on home soil and in subsequent tournaments, establishing herself as Australia’s primary leg-spinner.
Wareham made her sole Test appearance against India in September 2021.
After suffering an ACL injury during the WBBL that forced her to miss significant time, including the 2022 Ashes and ODI World Cup, she returned strongly in 2023.
Domestically and in franchise cricket, she has featured for Victoria in the Women’s National Cricket League, Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League, and Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
Accolades
Wareham was named one of the ICC’s five breakout stars in women’s cricket in 2018.
She received the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year award in 2019, recognising her rapid rise, and was named WBBL Young Gun.
Locally, she was honoured as Mortlake Young Citizen of the Year in 2018.
Her most prominent achievements include multiple ICC Women’s T20 World Cup titles with Australia, beginning with the 2018 triumph at age 19 and continuing through later successes.
She has earned Player of the Match awards in international matches and secured a full Cricket Australia contract from the 2019-20 season onward.
In franchise cricket, she contributed to Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Women’s Premier League title campaign and has been recognised for her all-round impact and consistent performances across formats.
