Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has protested the move by Salaries and Review Commission SRC) to pay graduate police officers house allowance which is same as that paid to those officer under the rank of Inspector of Police.

Through a letter sent to SRC on 16 November 2018, IG Boinnet is demanding that SRC sticks to the police guideline on rewarding officers based on rank and not qualification, something which is seen as rewarding rank and not qualifications in the service.

    Letters from Vigilance House

Through the guidelines from police headquarters, Vigilance House, the lowers rank (Police Constable) will receive Ksh 18,124 while the highest rank right before the IG, Senior Assistant Inspector General of Police, will receive Ksh 63,442 per month for their housing needs.

The letter from the police boss, Joseph Boinnet is already raising disquiet in the police service with graduate officers who were set to benefit terming it a tool of demoralisation in the service. The proposal by SRC was going to reward graduate police officers who are ranked lower than IP as they were going to be automatically paid allowance at the rank of IP.

The Inspector General’s protest to SRC has been channeled through the office of the Principal Secretary (PS) Interior, Karanja Kibicho.

Currently, graduate police officers fall under job group PG4/PG5 while through the demand by the office of the Inspector General, the graduate officers are automatically demoted to job group F.

The proposal by SRC would have seen graduate police officers paid house allowance of Ksh 41,000 or more in Nairobi and Ksh 17,000 or more in the other regions.
