Kenya Railways Corporation has banned the scheduling of tickets for passengers travelling on the standard gauge railway (SGR) train between Nairobi and Mombasa.
According to the Railways management, the rescheduling of time has been stopped with immediate effect.
The corporation however noted that the agency will allow passengers to cancel tickets when they visit the terminus in person before the train departs.
Ticket cancellation will, attract a 20 percent charge on the ticket price.
“At the moment, we do not allow rescheduling. You can, however, cancel your ticket by visiting the terminus with your original ID before the train departs the station,” asserted the corporation.
They further noted that the ban is to aid tame ticket fraud.

The corporation has not started making profits since it launched the Madaraka Express last year.
Last November, three Chinese officials and four Kenyans were arrested for allegedly operating an SGR ticket scandal.
Upon their arrests, the Mombasa Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) boss George Ojowi divulged that the seven were employees of the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) that manages the SGR.
According to reports, approximately Ksh1 million of SGR ticket money is stolen daily by the cartels.
“The scheme also involves creating refunds for tickets already sold and issued to passengers on board and diverting the refunds elsewhere,” stated one detective.
