An 18-year-old woman was shot dead in Kapedo, Turkana County, after she was allegedly mistaken for a Pokot spy.

Nachomin Losuron succumbed to gunshot injuries to her chest and both hands while receiving treatment at Kamuge Dispensary, according to a police report.

Police said Losuron had returned after making a long phone call when she was allegedly confronted by a local.

The man reportedly suspected the young woman of being a Pokot spy and shot her.

Losuron was rushed to Kamuge Dispensary, where she later died from her injuries.

The suspect reportedly fled the area on Monday night and was being pursued by members of his family.

Police said that the deceased’s family had yet to formally report the matter to police, with relatives instead pursuing the alleged suspect.

Authorities were expected to establish the circumstances that led to the shooting and apprehend the suspect.

Such gun attacks are common in the area amid efforts to address the menace.

And the decomposed body of a 64-year-old man who had been missing from his home since last week has been found at Takaungu Creek in Kilifi South Sub-County.

The body of Athumani Khamis Abdallah was discovered on Monday by members of the Takaungu Mangrove Conservation team before being washed ashore by a high tide.

Police found the decomposed body lying along the shores of the creek.

Police said preliminary investigations established that Abdallah had been missing from his home since last week. He was also reported to have been of unsound mind.

The body was retrieved from the shoreline and taken to the mortuary at Kilifi County Referral Hospital, where it was preserved pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and death.
