MP Aisha Jumwa Rejects Raila’s Call For Apology, Says Expulsion Was Flawed

Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has refused to issue an apology to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party in a bid to be reinstated as a member after recent expulsion.

This is following ODM party leader Raila Odinga’s statement on Tuesday that the party was ready to reconsider her ouster on condition that she apologizes.

“Dori aliomba msamaha na tukakubali, Jumwa akiomba msamaha pia tutamsamehe” (We forgave Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori after he apologised. If Aisha Jumwa does the same, we will forgive her too ),” said the ODM leader.

The African Union special envoy was speaking in Kibra, Nairobi when he visited victims of the Toi market fire inferno.

In response to Odinga’s sentiments, the legislator claimed her expulsion was flawed.

Addressing the press at Parliament buildings, Nairobi, Jumwa affirmed that she will not ask for forgiveness, adding that Raila should refer to the records on her earlier stand.

“I have heard Raila Odinga saying that if I appear before the party they will forgive me… I want to tell him that what I told them before the National Executive Council that remains my position. Let them go back to the records,” said Jumwa.

She questioned the procedure the party used to expel her.

According to Jumwa, while the ODM disciplinary committee is composed of five members, only one of them sat and decided to expel her and Dori before communicating the decision to the ODM National Executive Council (NEC), which she also claims was not properly constituted.

The legislator said she was surprised by Odinga’s statement, yet he was among those who confirmed her expulsion.

ODM disciplinary committee had recommended the expulsion of Jumwa and Dori for openly supporting Deputy President Ruto’s 2022 ambitions, ‘contrary to the party’s act.’

The decision to expel Jumwa was adopted by the National Governing Council (NGC) as recommended by the National Executive Council (NEC).

However, NGC reconsidered the decision to kick out Dori after he wrote to the party.

Following the NGC declaration Jumwa has remained defiant to the party’s final decision.
