Nominated MP David Ole Sankok’s former driver has been charged with sending threatening messages to his former boss.

Raphael Papaya Torome, was charged at Nairobi Milimani Court with the offense of demanding property by written threats.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, Torome was also charged with the intent to extort money from his former boss Mr Sankok without a reasonable or probable course.

In their submissions, the prosecution noted that Torome sent messages to the legislature that threatened the MP’s family as well as himself.

However, the former driver denied the allegations and told the court that Sankok fired him without following due diligence.

The prosecution however did not oppose Torome’s vail/bond terms however the MP through his lawyer opposed his release claiming that he is a threat to Sankok and his family.

In her ruling, Magistrate Mutuku mentioned that there were no compelling reasons to deny the accused freedom and released him on a cash bail of Ksh80,000 or a bond of Ksh100,000.

Torome was ordered not to interact with the complainant or contact witnesses in the matter.

Magistrate Mutuku then asserted that the case will be mentioned on April 26, 2019.
