The Nairobi Hospital Board of Management has dismissed Chief Executive Officer Gordon Otieno Odundo.
Odundo had been sent on compulsory leave in December last year to allow for an audit of the hospital’s tendering process.
In a statement on Wednesday, the hospital’s board chairman, John Simba, said Odundo’s contract had been terminated effective immediately.
“The Board of Management, after due consideration of all the relevant factors pertaining to the office of the Chief Executive Officer, unanimously resolved to terminate the service contract of Mr. Gordon Otieno Odundo as the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital effective immediately,” said Simba.
He noted that Managing Director, Christopher Abeid, will continue acting as Chief Executive Officer as the process of appointing a new CEO is set to begin.
“The Board will put in motion the process of identifying a suitable replacement. Until this process is finalized, Christopher Abeid, M.D. will continue as the Acting Chief Executive Officer,” the statement reads in part.
Last year, a stand off ensued at the hospital after Odundo reportedly locked himself in his office way into the night to avoid being served the suspension letter.
The sacking comes a day after a staff member allegedly succumbed to cholera in the facility.
Reports also indicate that seven other employees have been taken ill.

In a statement, the hospital, however, dismissed claims of cholera within the facility.
“There is no outbreak of Cholera at the Nairobi Hospital. No patient is at risk and we are continuously monitoring. All precautionary measures are in place,” the Tuesday statement read in part.
However, the hospital, cited the recent outbreak of cholera in Nairobi County saying eight of their employees were affected and are admitted.
By Wednesday, the hospital reported 23 cases of cholera patients admitted at the facility.
