Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has claimed that Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been calling Deputy President William Ruto secretly at night to discuss politics.

In a video shared on Sunday on his Facebook account, Khalwale slammed Atwoli and a section of Western region leaders for being selfish.

According to Khalwale, such leaders attack the DP during public gatherings but make secret appearance during the night to pledge allegiance.

He accused them of organizing secret meetings with the aim of benefiting themselves and not the poor citizens they pretend to fight for during the day.

Khalwale defended his newly-found-relationship with the Deputy President saying it’s purely aimed at benefiting the common mwananchi.

The former Kakamega gubernatorial candidate said he meets DP Ruto during the day to discuss matters affecting his people, unlike Atwoli and his allies.

“Hii urafiki mnaona tunatengeneza na mweshimiwa Ruto, sio urafiki wa kujitafutia, urafiki wa kujitafutia ni wa mtu anaenda kwa kiongozi usiku, mimi ninaonana na Ruto mchana, peupe (Loosely translated as: A leader, one who meets another at daytime and engages him/her without hiding is the one that cares about the welfare of his people. Other self-seeking Luhya leaders hold talks with Ruto at night),” Khalwale said.

“Ata huyu mkora anaitwa Atwoli, yeye huwa anapigia Ruto simu usiku kwa sababu anajitafutia, mimi huwa naenda kwa Ruto mchana (Even this conman called Atwoli always talks to Ruto over the phone at night for selfish gains),” he added.

He called upon such leaders to declare a stand.

The comments comes days after Atwoli said DP Ruto won’t be on the ballot come 2022.

“In 2022, we shall go to elections to elect the president and you will vote a lot. It will be a peaceful election because we will have changed the constitution,” Atwoli explained, adding that this move will ensure that the hustler’s close allies will be kicked out of government.

“And I want to tell you one thing, William Samoei Ruto’s name will not be there. You can take it to the bank for free,” he stated amidst cheers from the crowd.

He in the same breath noted that Khalwale will never succeed Wycliffe Oparanya.

“Boni Khalwale will never be the governor of Kakamega County; he will die a beggar,” he stated.

DP Ruto has since dismissed Atwoli’s remarks, terming them witchcraft.

“In this country right now, the contest is between two groups; those who believe in God and those who believe in witchcraft. When you hear someone saying that he has been told by witch-doctors that a certain person will be on ballot and the other will not… it tells you a lot about where the country is right now.

“But just pray for such people so that they can seek the kingdom of God first and stop these other things messing up the country, ” said Ruto.
