The body of a woman has been recovered in Kibera, Sarangombe area after Nairobi floods wreaked havoc.

According to reports, the woman was swept away with her two children after heavy rains on Tuesday evening.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident, Kibera sub county commander Michael Muchiri, the two children have not been found.

The police officer further noted that a team has since been dispatched to trace them.

He also speculated that the children were slept away into Nairobi dam.

Muchiri however urged locals to move to safer areas and avoid similar incidents in future.

According to the area residents, blocked sewerage lines have contributed to the flooding in Kibera.

Last week, the Nairobi County Government commenced a process of unclogging drainage systems in several parts of the city.

County government officials stated that the process was in anticipation of the rainy season, however, they are yet to complete it.

The areas targeted by the county government included: Mukuru, Kibera slums, Kileleshwa, Highrise estate, Eastleigh, South C, South B, Nairobi West, Lang’ata, Eastleigh, Donholm, Roysambu, Kahawa West, Ruai and Utawala.

Addressing the same, Roads and Transport CEC Hitan Majevdia asserted: “We have enough personnel and machinery including those from the Nairobi Regeneration team to make our initiative a success. The unclogging of drainage systems exercise will continue in all the 17 Sub-Counties.”
