Human rights activist Boniface Mwangi has been released after his arrest on Monday by DCI detectives for allegedly spearheading a revolution against the state.

Taking to his Twitter handle after his release, the award-winning photographer said revolution is not treason.

“The people aren’t stupid; they know who is stealing and they will go after them. When that time comes, there will be no power that can stop them! #Tumechoka,” Mwangi said.

Thank you everyone for your voices. l have been released! Kenyans are angry, hungry and broke. They feel like revolting against bad governance and corruption, and the government is afraid it’s going to happen. Revolution is not treason. pic.twitter.com/Utpw5MbJJc

Earlier, a DCI investigative statement seen by Kahawa Tungu, accused Mwangi of organizing a revolution likely to cause civil unrest in the country.

“…inquiry into the alleged organization of a revolution likely to cause civil unrest and cause a breach of peace.

“I have information to believe that you Boniface Mwangi has information that may assist me with the inquiry, ” the statement by Chief Inspector George Muchiri reads in part.

The fierce critic of the state’s arrest and detention at Central Police station, has been linked to his hard stance on the arrest of activist Betty Wa Shiro.

Ms Shiro was arrested in the anti-corruption protests dubbed Beyond Zero Corruption last week.

Recently, Mwangi also posted photos of President Uhuru Kenyatta insinuating that he is the man who has messed the country, and it could have rubbed the administration the wrong way.
