Airbnb has announced that its Community Fund will donate more than Sh1 billion ($8.5 million) to nonprofit organizations worldwide in 2025.

The beneficiaries include over 160 organizations across more than 30 countries, focusing on economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and ending abuse and exploitation.

The Airbnb Community Fund, launched in 2020, is a Sh12.9 billion ($100 million) initiative aimed at directly supporting local communities.

Each year, Airbnb selects organizations that strengthen and uplift communities globally, often in collaboration with local Airbnb hosts.

The 2025 Community Fund grants will support nonprofits working in three key areas identified by the Airbnb Host Advisory Board: economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, and the fight against abuse and exploitation.

    African Beneficiaries of the Fund

Several organizations in Africa have been selected for funding. Digify Africa in South Africa, a youth-led organization, focuses on equipping young people with digital skills to enhance entrepreneurship, employment, and sustainable development across the continent.

AfriLabs in Nigeria, a pan-African network, supports entrepreneurs by providing essential skills, funding, and networking opportunities. The funds will be used to strengthen innovation hubs and help high-potential entrepreneurs drive economic growth.

In Kenya, Children of Africa is a charity dedicated to empowering underprivileged girls through vocational training and employment opportunities. The organization also sponsors disadvantaged children to pursue formal education.

Another Kenyan beneficiary, the Global Give Back Circle, is a social impact enterprise that provides vulnerable adolescent girls and young women with mentorship and educational opportunities, helping them become agents of change in their communities.

Local Host Clubs, led by volunteer Airbnb hosts, played a role in nominating and selecting the grant recipients.

This year, 85 Host Clubs—almost double the number from last year—participated in choosing community-based nonprofits to receive funding.

Among the selected organizations are WISER Kenya and Round Table Margate No. 46 (Tidy Towns Shelly to Margate) in South Africa.

Qhakaza Mohare, COO of Digify Africa, expressed gratitude for the funding, stating:
“Airbnb’s generous donation has allowed us to expand our efforts in equipping young people with digital skills. It has helped us launch the Marketplace initiative, connecting graduates to real-world opportunities, and has enhanced our capacity to create lasting impact in underserved communities.”
