African Judges from the Conference of constitutional Jurisdictions in Africa have expressed deep concerns over the recent remarks made by President Uhuru Kenyatta against Chief Justice David Maraga. The row between Kenya railways and Rift Valley Railways is far from over even with the agreement to terminate the 25 year concession contract after only 10 years. The workers of the Rift Valley Railways are now stranded after being left in the cold.They say that in 2006 they were transferred to the Rift Valley Railways from the Kenya Railways Corporation. After the concession the court ruled that the Rift Valley Railways had been given thirty days to ensure a smooth transfer of the assets and workers back to the corporation. A second Body has been found in Governor Mike Sonko’s Buruburu night club which went up in flames on Sunday night. Earlier reports indicated that only one person, a worker, identified as Mr.Kilunda had been killed by the fire. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has deactivated 95,000 accounts that have not migrated their accounts to the iTAX platform despite having VAT obligations. KRA had sent out texts on Tuesday to account owners who had not migrated to get in touch with its agents in order to regularize their status on the platform. Legal experts on tax issues have termed the deactivation of non compliant accounts move as illegal. The authority has however said that they have been receiving a lot of pressure from treasury to collect more revenue. Catholic Bishops have said they are disappointed in both sides of the political divide. They were disappointed in the move by NASA to boycott the elections on 17 October if their ultimatums are not met. Barclays Bank is set to unveil a scholarship program that will see 420 students who excel academically but struggle financially get up to Ksh.150,000. The bank said that it would partner with the Higher Educations Loans board (HELB) in rolling out the program as it already has established elaborate systems.
