Muthoki Mumo and colleague Angela Quintal who were arrested yesterday in Tanzania have benn released and are currently at the South African embassy in Tanzania. The two, who work for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) were arrested by Tanzanian immigration authorities after being in the country for reporting missions. Tanzanian Authorities took their passports upon arrest, and are yet to return them. Their communication devices were also taken away and used to relay falsified information. Tanzanian authorities are demanding Sh1.3 million for the release of 36 fishermen that were arrested on the Tanzanian side of Lake Victoria. They have also demanded for Sh200,000 for for each of the 10 boats that were captured. Citizen TV reporter Kimani Mbugua was assaulted by county Askaris after witnessing the brutal arrest of a Bodaboda rider in the CBD which is forbidden. According to the journalist, he was assaulted for taking the video of the Askaris arresting the rider from a moving motorcycle which to him seemed dangerous. Police are investigating the death of two people in Siaya county. A man, James Atango is alleged to have killed his wife, Caroline Adhiambo. He then committed suicide.
