Residents of Narok have protested against Senate leader of majority Kipchumba Murkomen. They say that the senator should stop inciting and allow the Mau evictions to continue. A conflict is brewing between Kenya power and the Mumias sugar company. A few weeks ago the Kenya power switched off power supply for the sugar company. The sugar company has since retaliated by blocking Kenya power from accessing the two substations that are within the companies premises. The former attorney general Githu Muigai has said that his office involvement in the Ruaraka land transaction was only limited to an advisory legal opinion. In the legal opinion the former attorney general advised the National land commission chairman that the principle of compulsory acquisition did not apply to land that had been deemed to be acquired unlawfully. Amnesty International Kenya have termed Justice Lesiit’s sentence on Ruth Kamande as retrogressive, Irungu Houghton, the Chief Executive Officer said that the death sentence that the 24 year old was given was cruel. “We are concerned that Kenya continues to use this cruel, inhumane and outdated mode of punishment. This sentence is a blow to Kenya’s progressive record in commuting death sentences to terms of imprisonment,” the statement sent to newsrooms read in part. There is a looming battle in the Machakos county assembly between the governor, Alfred Mutua and Members of the county assembly. The governor has placed in office the seven ministers that the county assembly had earlier rejected.
