Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has suspended three county chiefs over misuse of funds. Chief of Staff Brian Mugo was suspended alongside acting Head of County Treasury Stephen Mutua and Ekaya Alumasi. The embattled county boss has asked the DCI to speedily investigate the claims and should the suspects be found accountable, then they should be prosecuted. The trio was also said to have issued Local Purchase Orders (LPO) and Service Orders (LSO) without Sonko’s permission. They reportedly inflated the LPOs as well. Kenyans will starting this month pay less for electricity following the removal of standing charges and a review on the tariffs. The Energy and Regulatory Commission (ERC) on Monday announced that the government was doing away with the monthly fixed charge of Sh150, which translates to 36 per cent reduction for the 3.6 million low cost Kenya Power consumers. Innovative school children are helping in the fight against deforestation by planting seeds using slingshots. The initiative by the SeedBalls Kenya company, which makes and sells seedballs globally, is meant to encourage children have slingshot competitions using charcoal covered seeds instead of stones. About 2 million seedballs have been planted in Kenya alone in the past year and a half in what has been called “guerrilla gardening.” The company recycles coal dust collected around Nairobi and buys the seeds from the Kenya Forest Research Institute.
