Makueni County chief of staff Redempta Kavindu has been accused of misusing county funds.

Ms Kavindu took over from Musyoka Kivungi who in 2017 was charged for being drunk and disorderly alongside Hasina Maweu.

Kavindu, sources say, has been squandering her imprest on meals, accomodation and transport. But the county chief of staff also has been feeding her gambling habits using the tax payers money.

Kahawa Tungu has learnt that the county employee has in the recent past spent up to Sh12,700 on pool table gambling.

Documents seen by Kahawa Tungu indicate that the employee has a driver assigned to her but spends at least Sh8,000 on taxi fares from Wote to Nairobi.

On one particular day Ms Kavindu spent Sh15,500 on food and drinks at Cai Resort and Spa and Sh18,500 for the same but at Ikuuni Hotel.

But what has caught the people’s eye is the fact that most of her expenditure is spent in Machakos county.

Makueni county government has under the leadership of Governor Kivutha Kibwana experienced tremendous growth and few cases of corruption.

In May the county boss put corrupt contractors and county employees on notice saying that his administration will deal with them ruthlessly.

“We will not tolerate incidences of corruption and blackmail. I urge you to report cases of corruption to my office directly. In the past, we have been ruthless with corrupt people so if we get them, we will eject them from the system,” Kibwana said at Acacia Hotel in Wote.
