At least 150 Moi University students were on Friday night arrested in Eldoret. The students were attending an illegal party but at an unlicensed club. Confirming the incident was Eldoret West OCPD Samwel Mutunga who said that the students were apprehended for being disorderly. Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino has lost his seat. The first time legislator has had his August win nullified following a petition filed by his opponent, Francis Mureithi. Justice Joseph Sergon while delivering the ruling said that the election was marred by wide-spread errors and malpractices. Babu has ordered to pay Sh5 million as costs for the suit. The Court of Appeal will hear NARC Kenya, Martha Karua’s petition against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru afresh, setting aside the High Court ruling. Karua’s case, was dismissed on November 15 by Justice Lucy Gitari who she accused of being biased. On December 15 through her lawyer, Gitobu Imanyara sought to have Gitari’s ruling set aside saying that the judge ignored results of electoral materials scrutiny conducted pursuant to her orders issued on October 23, 2017. “The results of the scrutiny were available to her and thereby occasioned great prejudice to the petitioner,” the lawyer said. Justice Joseph Louis Ongutu has died. The High Court judge collapsed at the Parklands Sports Club gymnasium on Thursday evening before being rushed to MP Shah where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Confirming the commercial division judge’s passing was Kenya Judges and Magistrates Association Secretary General Derrick Kuto. He said that the deceased passed on after a gym session at the club. Justice Ongutu will be remembered for having ruled that the state had erred by issuing title deeds without consulting the National Lands Commission. A University of Nairobi (UoN) law student was allegedly drugged and abandoned in a thicket near Mang’u High School. A man believed to be one of the perpetrators has been arrested as two others remain at large. The student, the police report indicates, was drugged and kidnapped near the Kenya National Archives and was later found near Witeithie, Juja. She was found by passers-by, who took her to the Nairobi Women Hospital where she received treatment and later discharged. Barclays Africa Group Limited is set to re-brand to ABSA Group Limited. The lender made the announcement on Thursday morning after releasing its results for the year end December. “Today, we announce that we will rename Barclays Africa Group as Absa Group and will have one name across our operations in future, if regulators and shareholders approve,” Barclays Bank Kenya announced. The change will be effected in May after seeking the shareholders’ approval at the annual general meeting. Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has been charged in a Nyeri court for importing an illegal gun. Wanjigi was represented by his lawyer, Kiogora Mugambi who said that his client would not show up in court until he knows the charges against him. Jetways Airline has lost its operating license pending investigations after it was said to have put at risk security at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi was allegedly being trailed by flying squad officers and was stopped at the Museum Hill. From a video doing rounds on social media, two armed men can be seen approaching Wanjigi’s car, Registration number KCB 090F while another makes his way to the car and threatens one of the occupants. Simba Cement workers are seeking justice for one of their own who died under unclear circumstances at the newly commissioned clinker plant in Merrueshi, Kajiado county. The multi-million dollar plant was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta where at 700 Kenyans were employed.
