The National Youth Services (NYS) has cancelled all existing tenders and opened doors for a new tendering process. In a statement sent to newsrooms, NYS stated that all current suppliers are required to reapply afresh for consideration. “NYS has invited suppliers and service providers to register afresh to supply goods and services to the institution for the period 2018-2020. Only 843 out of the known 4,140 dams and pans in the country are regulated by the Water Resources Authority (WRA), formerly Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA). This means that a total of 3,297 dams spread across Kenya have not been inspected for safety, including the killer Solai dam that claimed 47 lives in Nakuru. SGR staffers and engineers are allegedly being forced to sign non-disclosure agreements in a bid to cover racism claims labelled against them by media investigations. Early this week, reports emerged that the Chinese contractors running the multi-billion project have been mistreating Kenyan staffers. Among the allegations was underpayment, discrimination and tax evasion through P9 forms given to their staff. The National Lands Commission (NLC), Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) and Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) have said that Kibera residents will not be compensated to pave way for construction of Ngong Road-Kungu Karumba-Lang’ata link road. The commissions gave the reason that land belongs to the government and the development of the proposed link road will proceed as planned. “The transport corridor is on public land. Egyptian development expert Hafez Ghanem has been appointed the new vice-president for Africa. Mr Ghanem, whose appointment is effective from July 1, succeeds Mr Makhtar Diop, who has been named the bank’s Vice- President for Infrastructure. State Bank of Mauritius, through its Kenyan subsidiary SBM Kenya has started acquiring assets and assuming liabilities of defunct Chase Bank. Central Bank of Kenya approved the takeover on June 13, allowing SBM Kenya to acquire certain assets and liabilities. Subsequently, Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury Henry Rotich endorsed CBK’s approval on June 28. “The acquisition and assumption process will be completed on August 17, 2018.
