A Kiambu family identified the man found in Ruaka as Jackson Njuguna Wambui, a clothes vendor in the area. Speaking at Kenyatta National Hospital, where Jackson is receiving medical attention, the family said they had last seen him on Sunday before identifying him in disturbing photos that surfaced online on Tuesday. The family clarified that Jackson is not Ndiang’ui Kinyagia, the missing blogger, as had been speculated in online conversations. He had been branded a blogger before he went missing, the family said. Kinyagia is still missing since June 21 and was linked to the June 25 protests. This came…
Police sources have identified 20-year-old Wess Roley as the suspect in the sniper attack on firefighters in Idaho, according to the BBC’s US partner CBS News. Two firefighters were killed and a third injured on Sunday after a gunman shot at them as they arrived at a blaze at Canfield Mountain, just north of Coeur d’Alene. Authorities believe Roley deliberately lit the fire to lure first responders to the area. A police tactical team later “located a deceased male” – believed to be the shooter – close to where the attack took place. Authorities are yet to comment on a…
The police have denied reports that they summoned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for grilling over June 25 protest violence. The police however vowed to go after him should an ongoing investigation unearth evidence linking him to chaos. This follows numerous accusations from pro-government politicians and state officials attempting to pin the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader to financing and mobilisation efforts that went into organising the Wednesday uprising. “It is not true that we have summoned Rigathi Gachagua. But, I would like to point out that he does not enjoy any immunity against prosecution. He is subject…
The White House said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney “caved” to pressure from President Donald Trump in rescinding a tax on big US technology firms. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Monday Canada had made a mistake in trying to levy the tax, and that Carney called Trump on Sunday evening to say he would drop it. Since Trump returned to office, the two countries have been fighting over trade. In response to the tax, which he called a “blatant attack”, Trump on Friday called off trade deal negotiations and threatened to raise tariffs. Canada then said…
The Trump administration said Harvard University violated civil-rights laws over its treatment of Israeli and Jewish students, potentially further endangering its federal funding. In a letter sent to Harvard, the administration accused the university of deliberate indifference towards the concerns of Jewish students who felt threatened on campus. The move is the latest in a series of legal and financial battles between Harvard and the White House – the stakes of which have dramatically escalated over the last few months. Harvard says it has made “significant strides” to combat discrimination and “strongly disagrees” with the government’s findings. The letter -…
The Supreme Court ruled that children born out of wedlock to Muslim fathers are entitled to inherit from their father’s estate, marking a significant development in the interpretation of Islamic personal law in Kenya. This is after the court on Monday dismissed an appeal by Fatuma Athman Abud Faraj, who had sought to exclude the children of her late husband, Salim Juma Hakeem Kitendo, from his estate on grounds that they were born outside a recognized Islamic marriage. Faraj, who had four children with the deceased within a formal Islamic union, argued that children sired by Kitendo with Ruth Mwawasi…
A peace deal between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda aimed at ending decades of conflict in eastern DRC paves the way for “a new era of stability”, Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi said Monday. Rich in natural resources, especially lucrative minerals, the vast DRC’s east has been plagued by deadly violence that has ravaged the region for three decades. Fighting intensified early this year when the Rwanda-backed M23 armed group seized territory including the key cities of Goma in late January and Bukavu several weeks later. The lightning offensive in the east on Rwanda’s border left thousands dead and…

In the blurred overlap of dating apps, digital personas, and fragmentary communication, trust often arrives second – and suspicion first. Platforms like ClarityCheck aren’t built for drama, but they’re becoming the unlikely tools people reach for when the stories they’re told begin to crack. The following stories reflect a growing use case for ClarityCheck: not fraud protection or business vetting, but something more intimate – emotional verification. In both cases, users turned to the tool not because they didn’t…

A sprawling budget bill in the US Senate could cut healthcare for nearly 12 million Americans and add nearly $3.3 trillion in new debt, according to new estimates. The assessement from the Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan federal agency, is all but certain to complicate Republicans’ efforts to pass Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” in the coming days. It narrowly cleared a preliminary vote Saturday. Party leaders scrambled to win over lawmakers concerned about debt and the bill’s healthcare cuts, among other issues. One critic, Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, announced Sunday that he would not seek reelection after…
