Maryanne Jebet Kitany, the estranged wife to Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, has maintained that the two were officially married under the Nandi and Meru customary laws. Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) National Executive Council has now given its embattled secretary-general Willison Sossion a seven-day ultimatum to resign or be forcefully dismissed. The decision was arrived at during a Tuesday night meeting that was convened to determine on the suitability of Sossion to continue leading the union. Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has been freed on a personal (free) bond hours after he was arrested over alleged incitement remarks on Deputy President William Ruto critics. Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has said that due process was followed before his wife, Nelius Mukami, was set free after she was arrested on Monday evening over traffic offences. Mukami was arraigned before Milimani Traffic Court magistrate Electer Rianyi where she was charged with two counts of traffic offences — driving a car without insurance and without a valid license at Globe Cinema, Nairobi. A 50-year-old Spanish woman, who was arrested on Monday, for illegally being in possession of an ivory bangle has been released after paying Ksh1 million fine. According to the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), Pich-Aguilera Maria, who was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on her way to Dar es Salaam, pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal possession of ivory weighing about 0.025g. Imprisoned Ugandan activist Stella Nyanzi has moved to court to challenge her recent conviction and sentence. The former Makerere University lecturer was slapped with 18 months in prison on August 2 for referring to President Yoweri Museveni as a  “pair of buttocks.” The ruling was delivered by Buganda Road Court Grade one Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu Musenze. Tanzanian journalist Erick Kabendera on Monday appeared in court but the hearing of his case couldn’t commence after the prosecution told the presiding magistrate that they were yet to complete investigations. The Kisutu magistrate court set Friday, August 30, as the next court appearance. The freelancer journalist, who was arrested on July 29, is facing three counts of economic crimes including assisting an organised crime racket, money laundering, and failing to pay millions of dollars in tax, all between January 2015 and July 2019.
