Betting firms Betin and SportPesa have moved to court to challenge the Kenya Revenue Authority’s move to demand tax arrears amounting to Ksh14 billion. The move comes barely a week after the taxman announced that the Labour Court had allowed KRA to collect Ksh2.7 billion monthly tax on withholding taxes on winnings from betting firm SportPesa. Police in Homa Bay County have launched a manhunt for Kasipul Member of Parliament Ong’ondo Were after his aides allegedly stabbed a teacher at a joint near Oyugis town. The Government has declared Wednesday, June 5 a public holiday. This is to allow the Muslim community celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. A driver attached to Samburu County government is in police custody after he was busted transporting Ksh1, 099, 000 cash on Saturday. According to a police report, the driver could not account for the money found in the county vehicle – Registration Number 25CG O32A –  he was driving from Isiolo towards Wamba town leading to his arrest by security officers manning a road block at Learata area in Samburu East Sub county. Two people died and 40 others were injured on Saturday night after an accident on the Mwingi—Kyuso Road in Mwingi Central, Kitui County. Confirming the accident, Mwingi Deputy OCPD Nicholas Mutua said the accident involved a 14-seater matatu and a mini-bus. Mutua said the driver of the mini-bus was driving on the wrong lane ramming into the oncoming matatu. The Central Bank of Kenya’s directive to make current Ksh1000 notes obsolete on October 1 has been welcomed by US Ambassador Kyle McCarter and UK High Commissioner Nic Hailey. A police officer on Friday night lobbed a teargas canister at his girlfriend after a disagreement in Blue Valley area, Karatina, Nyeri County. Seven people have been confirmed dead after an accident on the Mombasa-Malindi highway. According to reports, the accident occurred after a trailer’s tyre burst and rammed into a matatu on Friday evening.
