The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi now says that Chief Justice Martha Koome doesn’t recognize the lawyer’s body. The LSK boss made the remarks on Monday while responding to lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi’s comment on CJ Koome’s directive on resumption of physical hearings. In an internal memo dated October 28, Koome had asked all judges, magistrates, kadhis and members of tribunals to resume physical hearings citing a drop in Covid-19 cases across the country. The management of Buruburu Girls High School has allowed parents to pick their children for a short break as investigations into a Sunday evening fire at the institution kick-off. At least 59 students were hospitalised following the fire that broke out at around 5pm. Currently, 19 girls are admitted at the Metropolitan Hospital while 16 others are at the Jamaa Hospital. The Court of Appeal has suspended a judgment issued by the High Court directing President Uhuru Kenyatta to appoint six judges he rejected in 14 days. This is following an appeal filed by the Head of State last week. Justices Roselyn Nambuye, Wanjiru Karanja and Imaana Laibuta have granted the orders pending a ruling on November 19. The six were among 41 judges recommended by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for appointment by the President. Search efforts are ongoing for the body of a Bomet University College student who drowned at the Chepkulo River’s Kimaya Waterfall on Sunday evening. The 24-year-old was among a group of 13 students who had gone to the picnic site for a swimming and photography adventure. He was reportedly swept by the waterfall’s raging waves as he advanced to a deeper side for a better photo position. Eighty-nine bales of bhang were seized in an operation by the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) along Garrisa Road in Thika on Sunday. The illegal substance was being transported in a Nairobi-bound lorry christened Rhino Cement. At least 59 students were rushed to Metropolitan Hospital on Sunday evening following a fire incident at Buruburu Girls in Nairobi. Some of the students were treated and discharged. The rest, this writer understands, are in a stable condition. “Our team of trauma and emergency medicine have stabilized and discharged a total of 30 students already. The Ministry of Health has announced 17 new cases of Covid-19 from a sample size of 3,014 tested in the last 24 hours. Kenya’s positivity rate is now at 0.6 percent, a drop from the 2.9 percent recorded on Saturday. Total confirmed positive cases are now 253,310 and cumulative tests so far conducted stand at 2,704,816. From the new cases, 16 are Kenyans and one foreigner. Former Kajiado Governor David Nkedienye has announced plans to contest for the county’s gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Election. Nkedienye, who served as Kajiado County’s first governor, lost the seat to Jubilee party’s Joseph Ole Lenku in 2017 after serving for a five-year term. Years after Agnes Wanjiru’s body was discovered in a septic tank in Nanyuki, a British soldier linked to the 21-year-old woman’s killing and his colleagues laughed about the incident on Facebook, it has emerged. Chief Justice Martha Koome has criticized a call made by former CJ Willy Mutunga calling on judges to down tools in protest of the continued disobedience of court orders by the Executive arm of government.
