The communication Authority of Kenya has issued a directive to media houses to stop airing political rallies in live broadcast.
The Communication authority highlighted that the notice was in furtherance with the meeting held with the broadcasters to remind them of their obligations while airing political events.
The communications regulator told broadcasters to exercise caution while airing political events but made a rather unusual demand of broadcasters to cease from airing political events ensuing the November elections with immediate effect.
This according to CAK Director Francis Wangusi was because “political wounds were still fresh and that live coverage would hinder peace and foster hatred”.

While reacting to the notice, Nation Media Group’s senior manager Linus Kaikai stated that the regulator was out of hand in banning live coverage as they did not specify the regulations that were violated while airing.
He made an indication that his media house would ignore the ban and go ahead to air events and chaos that took place during the welcoming procession of NASA leader Raila Odinga.
