Detectives are pursuing a gang that attacked and robbed a businesswoman of Sh600,000 in Rangwe, Homa Bay County.
The woman was also stabbed and injured in the Thursday incident, police said. Her rider was also stabbed and seriously wounded in the incident before she and the boda boda rider were rushed to the hospital, police said.
The woman has been operating banking services in the town.
She had on Thursday December 11 closed her business and took a motorcycle to her nearby house.
While waiting for the gate to her house to be opened, an unknown number of suspects who had either trailed her or had been waiting struck.
Police said they first attacked the rider and stabbed him in the chest before turning on the woman.
She had a cut in the head, abdomen and right hand.
It was then that the gang grabbed a bag that contained the cash, six mobile phones and other personal valuables before escaping in a waiting car. The two were later rescued and rushed to a local hospital in a stable condition.
Police visited the scene and announced a hunt on the gang was ongoing.
Last week, a similar incident happened in the same area when a woman was robbed of Sh630,000 moments after she had left a bank. Police are yet to make arrests or recoveries over the incident.
Police investigations show most of such incidents are planned and executed by people with prior information on the money. Some of the thugs stay in banks pretending to be transacting before they notice those withdrawing huge sums and strike later on.
Others are tipped by insiders, police investigations have shown. Last week on Tuesday, police shot and killed two suspects in Nairobi after they attacked and robbed a businessman of Sh300,000 moments after walking from a bank on Kimathi Street. Three other suspects managed to escape on foot.
