    Camila Manhães Sampaio, professionally known as Camila Pitanga, is a Brazilian actress and former model born on June 14, 1977, in Rio de Janeiro.

    She comes from a family deeply rooted in the arts, with her parents being actors Vera Manhães and Antônio Pitanga.

    Pitanga has gained international recognition for her work in film, television, and theater, while also establishing herself as a prominent activist.

    She serves as the director of the NGO Movimento Humanos Direitos, focusing on issues like slave labor and child abuse, and holds the position of National UN Women Ambassador, advocating for women’s rights and social justice.

    In her personal life, she was married to Cláudio Amaral Peixoto from 2001 to 2011 and has a daughter named Antônia, born in 2008.

    Pitanga has also been in relationships, including one with actor Igor Angelkorte from 2015 to 2017.

    She transitioned into modeling before fully committing to acting, gaining prominence in the late 1990s and early 2000s with roles in films like “Caramuru: A Invenção do Brasil” in 2001, where she portrayed an indigenous character, and “Redentor” in 2004.

    Her television breakthrough came with telenovelas, notably playing the iconic role of Bebel in “Paraíso Tropical” in 2007, which earned her widespread acclaim for its bold and complex portrayal.

    She continued to star in popular series such as “Cama de Gato” in 2009 as Rose and more recent projects like “Beleza Fatal” on Max, showcasing her versatility in dramatic and contemporary roles.

    Beyond acting, Pitanga has ventured into directing and screenwriting, contributing to various projects in cinema and theater.

    Her work extends to activism, where she uses her platform to address social issues, blending her professional life with advocacy through her NGO role.

    Throughout her illustrious career, Camila Pitanga has received numerous awards and nominations, totaling 17 wins and 10 nominations.

    In 2001, she won the Prêmio Guarani de Cinema Brasileiro for Best Actress, marking an early highlight in her film work.

    Her performance in “Paraíso Tropical” earned her the APCA Trophy for Best Actress in Television in 2008, tied with another actress, and the Prêmio da Associação Paulista de Críticos de Artes for Best TV Actress in 2007.

    In 2011, she was honored with the Best Actress award at the Festival Internacional do Rio.

    More recently, in 2025, Pitanga received the Prêmio PRODU for Best Lead Actress in a Contemporary Telenovela, underscoring her enduring impact in the industry.
