    Chief Justice Martha Koome has established four new Magistrates’ Courts in different parts of the country in a move aimed at expanding access to justice.

    The new courts are located in Kegonga, Emuhaya, Maara and Tarakwa.

    In a Gazette Notice dated September 4, 2026, Koome established the Kegonga Magistrates’ Court within the supervisory jurisdiction of the Migori High Court.

    The court became operational on September 1, 2026.

    Koome also established the Emuhaya Magistrates’ Court within the supervisory jurisdiction of the Vihiga High Court.

    The court commenced operations on September 1, 2026.

    The establishment of the court is expected to bring judicial services closer to residents in Emuhaya and surrounding areas.

    The Chief Justice further established the Maara Magistrates’ Court.

    The court falls under the supervisory jurisdiction of the Chuka High Court and also began operating on September 1, 2026.

    Koome also established the Tarakwa Magistrates’ Court within the supervisory jurisdiction of the Eldoret High Court.

    The court became operational on September 1, 2026.
