    CJ Koome Establishes Meru Court of Appeal and Small Claims Courts

    Chief Justice Martha Koome has established the Meru Court of Appeal at Nkubu Law Courts and set up small claims courts in several counties to improve access to justice.

    A gazette notice dated March 6, 2026 states that the Meru Court of Appeal will begin operating on April 1, 2026.

    The Small Claims Courts will exercise jurisdiction in designated counties, effective March 2, 2026.

    The courts have been set up at Maua Law Courts in Meru County, Mumias Law Courts in Kakamega County, Molo Law Courts in Nakuru County, Kapsabet Law Courts in Nandi County, Ngong Law Courts in Kajiado County, Kenol Law Courts in Murang’a County, and Kiambu Law Courts in Kiambu County.

    Other small claims courts include Mavoko Law Courts in Machakos County, Makueni Law Courts in Makueni County, Kilifi Law Courts in Kilifi County, Kikuyu Law Courts in Kiambu County, Vihiga Law Courts in Vihiga County, Homa Bay Law Courts in Homa Bay County, Bungoma Law Courts in Bungoma County, and Nyamira Law Courts in Nyamira County.
