    Company Sues NEMA Over Sh2 Billion Loss After Plastic Ban

    Hi plast limited a company dealing in plastic bags seeks to Sh 2 Billion worth of compensation from the ministry of environment for losses incurred after the plastic ban commenced.

    The company claims that the National environment management authority (NEMA) should have done a factory by factory audit to determine the stock and also the amount of time it would take to clear the stock.

    Hi Plast limited director Mahesh Dodhia in a sworn affidavit said that the ban was beneficial to government friendly manufacturers which he stated was discriminatory.

    The company had allegedly acquired loans that were to be paid with the projections of saales that were to be made before the ban

    “The petitioner’s loans were to be repaid solely based on sales projection that were hinged on month output and sales of its products which are now deemed illegal,” the lawyer for Hi plast stated.

    The company said that they had invested millions in millions in machinery and raw material which had been ordered prior to the implementation of the ban by NEMA.
