Former world boxing champion Conjestina Achieng’ is reportedly back to drinking herself away in chang’aa dens in her village despite having being admitted to a rehab center.

Speaking on her daughter’s state of wellness, Conje’s mother told the Nairobian that, the former household name is drastically deteriorating adding that she spends most of her days at the chang’aa dens.

“It has been hell since Conjestina returned home. She wakes up early in the morning and heads straight to the drinking dens. She returns back very late in the nights, sometimes with serious injuries,” she lamented.

Conjestina, who has been admitted at Eden House Rehabilitation Center, is claimed to have been momentarily released from the facility  for a two-week break.

According to the rehab’s executive director Boniface Ndirangu, Conje was only allowed a two-week break, and she is expected back at the facility soon.

“It’s been about two weeks since we allowed her to go home, and I think she should be back any minute. She went home with the sister. And at the time, she was stable,” Mr Ndirangu noted.

Her mother has now raised concerns asserting that she wants her daughter to be taken back to the rehabilitation center.

“This is not good for her. I pray that she goes back to the rehab and stay there until she fully recovers. Also, it would be a great relief if she gets the job she was promised by Governor Sonko,” Conjestina’s mother mentioned.

The ailing ring-champion was last year airlifted from her home in Siaya to Nairobi by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who then saw her admission to a rehabilitation center.

The county boss also promised her a job at the city hall soon after her recovery.

Conjestina was seen in public in March curtain-raising for Fatima Zarika’s fight.

It is however worth noting that according to her son, Conjestina was not progressing well even at the time as she was not at the rehabilitation center at the time.

She had allegedly been ferried from her Yala home in Siaya County to Nairobi for the fight.

Her son, Charlton Ochieng’ told the Nairobian that his mother is not doing well and is actually worsening as days go by.
