Detectives have arrested a man identified as David Onyango Elgon, alias MC Adek Tatu, over allegedly insensitive and inflammatory social media posts that authorities say sparked widespread public concern.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect is believed to be behind offensive content published on his Facebook account, MC Adek Tatu, which later spread across multiple social media platforms.

The DCI said the posts triggered public outrage and raised concerns over possible threats to public order and national cohesion.

“Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, a team of detectives launched a manhunt, trailing the suspect to his hideout at Queen’s Court in Utange, Mombasa County, where he was arrested in his residential house,” the agency said in a statement.

Authorities said the suspect is currently in police custody as detectives finalize investigations ahead of his arraignment in court.

“The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment,” the DCI added.

The investigative agency further cautioned Kenyans against misuse of digital platforms, warning that freedom of expression should not be used to spread divisive or inflammatory content.

“The digital space is not a lawless jungle. While we enjoy the freedom of expression, publishing or distributing inflammatory posts that incite public outcry and divide us as a nation is a crime,” the DCI stated.

The agency urged members of the public to exercise responsibility while using social media platforms.
