President William Ruto announced changes in government moving a number of Principal Secretaries.
A statement signed by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said Professor Edward Kisiang’ani was demoted and appointed as senior advisor and member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisors.
He joins former Public Service CS Moses Kuria and economist David Ndii in the council that is tasked with reviving the country’s economy.
Kisiang’ani previously served as the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications, a position that will now be occupied by Stephen Isaboke, the Group Executive, Head of Regulatory Affairs at MultiChoice Group.
Amos Gathecha was promoted from Principal Secretary of Public Service to Deputy Head of Public Service at the Executive Office of the President.
Education PS Belio Kipsang was moved to the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services at the Interior Ministry swapping positions with Julius Bitok while Medical Services PS Harry Kimtai was now moved to the Mining Ministry.
Dr. Caroline Wanjiru Karugu, former Nyeri Deputy Governor, will now work as Principal Secretary at the State Department for East African Community (EAC) Affairs.
Karugu was part of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s campaign team for the Africa Union Commission Chairmanship bid.
Fredrick Ouma Oluga, former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union Secretary-General, was also appointed as PS State Department for Medical Services.
Oluga served at the helm of KMPDU for five years before resigning in March 2020.
Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha Wafula was nominated as the new Kenyan Permanent Representative to the UN Habitat in Nairobi.
Ruto created a new State Department in the Ministry of Education and named Prof Abdulrazak Shaukat as the Principal Secretary.
Shaukat will be in charge of the Science, Research and Innovation which has been hived off from that of Higher Education currently held by Beatrice Inyangala.
Eng. Peter Tum was also stripped of his title as Sports Principal Secretary and has now been nominated as Kenya’s Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Trade PS Alfred Ombudo K’Ombudo has, on his part, been nominated as the Deputy Head of Mission in Belgium while his East African Community (EAC) counterpart Abdi Dubat Fidhow was picked as Consul-General in Arusha, Tanzania.
Economic Planning PS James Buyekane Muhati is poised to take over the role of Consul-General in Guangzhou, China, whereas his Maritime Affairs counterpart Geoffrey Eyanae Kaituko heads to Rome, Italy, as Deputy Head of Mission.
