A multi-agency team, including officers from Mugutha Police Station and the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) apprehended two drug traffickers and confiscated 800 rolls of bhang.
The suspects, Tyson Mwai, 30, and Samson Gathuki, 21, were caught with their hands in the cookie jar during a targeted raid in Kimbo area, police said. Authorities not only seized the rolls but also discovered a range of bhang packaged in sachets, which included 13 polythene sachets of 35 grams each, five sachets weighing 130 grams, 44 sachets of 16 grams, and two digital weighing machines, signalling a well-organized trafficking operation.
Elsewhere, in Moyale, vigilant officers on patrol intercepted a motorcycle laden with two suspicious sacks.
The rider abandoned the motorcycle and fled.
Upon inspecting the luggage, officers found twenty bales of bhang inside the sacks, totaling approximately 100 kilos.
The recovered narcotics and motorcycle are securely detained as exhibits.
Meanwhile, efforts to apprehend the trafficker who managed to evade capture are ongoing.
Agencies have upped their game in the war against narcotics trafficking in the country.
Some of the drugs originate the neighbouring countries, police say amid operations.
Dozens of suspects have been arrested in the latest operations that also saw hundreds of kilos of narcotics seized.
Meanwhile, police based at Kapletundo Police Station have arrested Hassan Kipkurui Rotich, a notorious suspect linked to vandalism of Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) transformers in Sotik area, Bomet County and its environs.
Acting on a tip-off regarding an ongoing vandalism of a KPLC transformer, officers responded swiftly and caught Rotich red-handed.
Upon interrogation, he further revealed locations of two additional transformers that he and an accomplice, Collins Kibet who remains at large had previously vandalized, rendering them nonfunctional in Chepkosa and Cheptigit villages.
The suspect, alongside recovered exhibits, was escorted to Kapletundo Police Station, where he is currently undergoing processing pending arraignment. Meanwhile, the search is on to apprehend his accomplice and bring him to book.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is urging the public to refrain from vandalizing vital installations, as such destructive behaviour will be met with the full force of the law.
