Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Abdi Mohamud has been elected to the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) for a three-year term.
In a statement on Wednesday, EACC announced that Mohamud’s election took place during IAACA’s 14th General Meeting held on February 6, 2025. IAACA, a Hong Kong-based organization, promotes the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and supports anti-corruption agencies worldwide in the fight against graft. The association comprises 180 anti-corruption authorities from various countries and regions.
“The election of the EACC CEO to the organization is an acknowledgment of Kenya’s continued strides in preventing and combating corruption,” the statement read.
Mohamud, who was sworn in as EACC CEO last month, took over from Twalib Abdallah Mbarak, who had served in the position for six years. His swearing-in ceremony was attended by Chief Justice Martha Koome, EACC Chairperson Bishop David Oginde, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Amin Mohammed Ibrahim, Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JALC) Chairperson George Murugara, Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, and other senior officials.
Following his appointment through a Gazette notice dated December 5, 2024, Mohamud reiterated his commitment to leading the fight against corruption. “Corruption is one of the key challenges facing our nation, and Kenyans expect the EACC to lead the war against it,” he stated.
He pledged to enforce the EACC’s 2023-2028 Strategic Plan, focusing on law enforcement, crime prevention, integrity promotion, and ethical governance. His leadership will prioritize strengthening anti-corruption measures to enhance accountability and good governance in the country.
