He began his youth career with Željezničar in 1995, developing his game as a creative and determined forward.

By 2003, Džeko had joined Željezničar’s senior team, where he played for two seasons before moving abroad to the Czech Republic in search of greater opportunities.

Between 2005 and 2007, Džeko played for FK Teplice, impressing fans with his sharp finishing and ability to read the game. During this period, he was also loaned to Ústí nad Labem, where he gained valuable experience and showcased his scoring instincts. His performances soon caught the attention of top European scouts.

In 2007, Džeko signed with VfL Wolfsburg in Germany’s Bundesliga, marking a major turning point in his career. There, he formed a deadly strike partnership with Grafite, helping Wolfsburg win the Bundesliga title in the 2008–09 season.
