    Emre Can is a German professional footballer of Turkish descent who plays as a defensive midfielder or centre-back for Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, where he serves as captain, and the Germany national team.

    Born on January 12, 1994, in Frankfurt, Germany, he is known for his physicality, leadership, technical ability, and ability to influence games from deep positions.

    Career

    Can began his youth career at SV Blau-Gelb Frankfurt and Eintracht Frankfurt before joining Bayern Munich’s academy in 2009.

    He made his senior debut for Bayern and played for their reserve side before seeking more playing time at Bayer Leverkusen in 2013.

    A year later, he transferred to Liverpool in the Premier League for around £9.75 million, where he became a key squad member under managers like Brendan Rodgers and Jürgen Klopp, making over 150 appearances and showcasing his versatility across midfield and defense.

    In 2018, Can moved to Juventus, winning domestic honors there before a loan and subsequent permanent transfer to Borussia Dortmund in 2020.

    At Dortmund, he has thrived in a leadership role, captaining the side and contributing both defensively and with occasional goals from midfield.

    Internationally, he has represented Germany at multiple levels, featuring in major tournaments and winning the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

    Accolades

    With Bayern Munich, Can won the Bundesliga and DFL-Supercup.

    At Juventus, he secured Serie A titles and other domestic cups.

    With Borussia Dortmund, he has reached the UEFA Champions League final and contributed to strong Bundesliga campaigns.

    On the international stage, he was part of Germany’s 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup-winning squad and lifted the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2011 with the youth team.

    Individually, notable moments include winning the BBC Goal of the Season for a memorable overhead kick while at Liverpool.
