The Ethiopian government has announced that nationals of of African Union Member States will now be allowed to travel into Ethiopia without Visas but will be issued with visa at the point of arrival.
The ministry of Foreign affairs said that this move was aimed at having an integrated Africa as those were the dreams of their founding father. The ministry said that the move also shows Ethiopia’s commitment to have an integrated Africa.
“The issuance of visa on arrival for all Africans will clearly demonstrate our resolute to the ideals and objectives of the AU and determinations to continue to play rightful roles towards free movement of people and the realization of our integration agenda,” Hirut Zemene the Minister for foreign affairs stated.
Ethiopia which hosts the AU headquarters have said that this move will assist the AU in achieving its free movement initiative and economic integration across Africa.
The African Union had asked all African countries to offer Visa on arrival to Africans by 2023.
The initiative for Visa on arrival will commence on November 9.
