The government of Kenya has established two emergency points for relatives and friends of the passengers who were travelling on the crashed Ethiopian Airline.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia on Sunday, stated that the government had set aside Terminal 1D and Sheraton Hotel at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as emergency points following the early morning incident.
According to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia the two points will take care of relatives and friends who might be affected by the unfortunate incident.
“We have initiated through Kenya Airports Authority, emergency responses to take care of relatives and friends who may be affected and who were to receive the passengers upon arrival to Nairobi,” he said.
He however, divulged that the government of Kenya has little information about the crash,but noted that once the information is provided by the Ethiopian Airlines and the Ethiopian Government, who are the primary sources, it will be made public.
Macharia reiterated that lack of clear information, has put the government in the dark on crucial details on on-board passengers.
He said once the information is received, the government will make crucial details available. This includes information on gender, race and country of origin of the victims.
“We request for your indulgence as we look forward to hear from the Ethiopian government, who are the primary source of information,” the CS said.
Further, the government urged those seeking further information on the incident to contact 0733666066 emergency number.
Today, the plane #ET302 is said to have dropped from the radar six minutes after departure from Addis Ababa and crashed with 157 on board.

Everyone on board Ethiopian Airlines jet died in crash, with victims reported to be from 33 nationalities.
Several prominent personalities have send their condolences including the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, AU envoy Raila Odinga and Kenya Airways CEO Sebastian Mikosz.

In a tweet, the office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia confirmed the crash, without giving much details.
“The Office of the PM, on behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express it’s deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning,” read the tweet.
