Tension was high at the Narok Referral Hospital over the weekend where two parties harshly differed over misappropriation of money set aside to purchase a coffin for their dead kin.

According to the mourners, Narok County Luo Community chairperson Paul Ouma, was to be buried in a casket worth Ksh22,000.

However, they were disappointed to go pick the body of their dead one in a coffin that according to them was worth Ksh8,000.

Additionally, led by Ouma’s friends in Rachuonyo, Moses Owiga, the coffin that had been initially purchased did not “befit the status of Mr Ouma.”

To the amusement of the morgue attendant, the mourners matched to the facility seeking a refund of their contributions, or a new “expensive” coffin be given to them.

Eventually, the funeral harambee committee chairperson, Joseph Orieko, produced the receipts used in the purchase to dismiss the claims that the coffin was bought at Ksh8,000.

According to the receipts, the casket was actually bought at Ksh25,000.

With the new knowledge of how much the coffin was bought at for, the family of the fallen chairperson opted to return the casket and get another fancy one for Ksh28,000.

Mr Ouma’s body was then released from the morgue and taken to Rachuonyo in Homa Bay County for burial.
