Five suspects have been arrested and a substantial quantity of cannabis sativa recovered following separate intelligence-led operations in Nakuru and Trans-Nzoia counties.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said in a statement on Sunday that the operations targeted suspected narcotics distribution networks in the two counties.
In Maai Mahiu, Nakuru County, detectives from the County Criminal Investigations Office, working alongside officers from Maai Mahiu Police Station, raided a rented house in the Mabatini area.
The operation resulted in the recovery of seven bags containing cannabis sativa, alongside several rolls and bundles of the suspected narcotic.
Officers also recovered five packets of rolling papers, which investigators believe point to a narcotics packaging and distribution operation.
Three suspects identified as Elijah Ng’ang’a, Samson Karanja and John Njenga were arrested during the raid.
The scene was processed and documented before the suspects and recovered exhibits were taken to the Nakuru County headquarters for further investigations.
Meanwhile, in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, officers from Trans-Nzoia West Sub-County conducted a targeted operation at a shop in the Kitale Bus Park area.
The operation led to the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of cannabis sativa.
One of the suspects, Brenda Kahendi Okwemba, was allegedly found in possession of the narcotics.
Police also recovered three weighing machines, rolling papers and three mobile phones from the premises.
A shop attendant, Martin Simiyu, was arrested alongside Okwemba.
Detectives later proceeded to Okwemba’s residence at Meru Farm in Kitale town, where they recovered 60 kilograms of cannabis sativa.
The search also led to the recovery of manila sacks, green polythene bags, sticks wrapped with yellow cellotape, a stapler and staples, and plain white papers.
The items are believed to have been used in packaging the suspected narcotics.
The five suspects remain in custody pending further investigations and arraignment.
Detectives are also pursuing other individuals suspected of being part of the wider narcotics supply chain.
The DCI said the latest operations form part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the illegal drug trade and dismantle networks involved in the distribution of narcotics.
“Through intelligence-led operations, the DCI remains relentless in disrupting the illicit drug trade, dismantling distribution networks and bringing those who profit from narcotics before the law,” the agency said.
