    Early Life

Flume was born Harley Edward Streten on November 5, 1991, in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His father, Glen Streten, is a record producer and filmmaker, while his mother, Lyndall Streten, is a horticulturist and former teacher. Flume grew up with two siblings and attended Seaforth Public School, St Augustine’s College, and Mosman High School.

His passion for music began early. At around 10 years old, he discovered a CD with music-making software in a cereal box promotion. This sparked his curiosity, and he quickly began experimenting with sounds and beats. By 2010, he was producing house music under the name HEDS before adopting the moniker Flume.

    Career Breakthrough

Flume’s breakthrough came in 2011 when his song Possum received radio play, earning him a deal with Australian label Future Classic. His self-titled debut album, Flume (2012), became a major success, reaching #1 on the Australian ARIA Albums chart and later going 2× Platinum. Singles such as Holdin On and Sleepless cemented his status as a rising star.

In 2013, Flume teamed up with Chet Faker to release the EP Lockjaw, which went 2× Platinum in Australia. The single Drop the Game became a fan favorite and earned international recognition.

    Global Success with Skin

Flume’s second studio album, Skin (2016), marked a turning point in his career. The record topped charts in Australia and New Zealand and reached the U.S. Billboard Top 10. Its lead single, Never Be Like You featuring Kai, became a global hit, topping the Australian charts and earning multi-Platinum certifications worldwide. Another standout track, Say It featuring Tove Lo, further boosted the album’s success.

Skin went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2017, establishing Flume as one of the leading figures in electronic dance music.

    Continued Releases and Collaborations

Flume has consistently expanded his discography with experimental projects and collaborations. His mixtape Hi This Is Flume (2019) earned critical acclaim, and in 2022 he released his third studio album, Palaces, which reached #3 in Australia and #1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums.

In 2023, he surprised fans with two new mixtapes, Things Don’t Always Go the Way You Plan and Arrived Anxious, Left Bored. His collaborations have included working with artists such as Lorde, Vince Staples, JPEGMafia, George Maple, and Tkay Maidza, further diversifying his sound and influence.
