Former presidential candidate and Agano Party leader David Mwaure Waihiga has been reappointed to a State position.

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Deborah Mlongo Barasa, through a gazette notice dated May 15, 2026, reappointed Waihiga as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund for a period of three years.

The reappointment takes effect from May 15, 2026.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 24 (3) of the Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry reappoints — David Mwaure Waihiga to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 15th May, 2026,” the gazette notice reads.

Waihiga was first appointed to the position in April 2023.

The Agano Party leader contested in the August 2022 presidential election, which featured four candidates. He finished fourth after garnering 31,987 votes.

President William Ruto won the presidential race.
