    Siblings

Francisco has two siblings, namely Juan Manuel Cerúndolo and María Constanza Cerúndolo.

Juan Manuel, born on November 15, 2001, is also a professional tennis player. He gained recognition after winning his first ATP singles title at the 2021 Córdoba Open.

Like Francisco, he plays right-handed and has been coached by their father, Alejandro Cerúndolo, who has been instrumental in their development as tennis players.

Their younger sister, María Constanza Cerúndolo, born in 2000, is a professional field hockey player.

She represented Argentina at the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, where she won a gold medal with the national team.

María continues to play for the Argentina national field hockey team and has made a name for herself in her sport.

    Early career

Cerúndolo’s passion for tennis was nurtured from a young age, thanks largely to his family’s sporting background.

His father, Alejandro Cerúndolo, was a professional tennis player and later became a coach, providing Francisco with early exposure to the sport.

Growing up in Buenos Aires, he trained at the family-run tennis academy, where he developed his skills alongside his brother, Juan Manuel.

Cerúndolo attended Colegio del Salvador, a school known for its emphasis on academics and athletics.

After high school, he briefly attended the University of South Carolina in the United States in 2018 to play college tennis.

However, he opted to return to Argentina to focus on his professional career. He continued his education at the University of Buenos Aires while pursuing his tennis aspirations.

    Professional career

Francisco turned professional in 2018 and made his ATP debut at the 2019 Argentina Open, where he received a wildcard entry.

Although he lost in the first round to Guido Pella, this experience marked the beginning of his journey on the ATP Tour.

In the following years, he participated in various ATP Challenger events and ITF tournaments, steadily improving his ranking and gaining valuable match experience.

His breakthrough came in 2021 when he qualified for the main draw of the Argentina Open and reached the final as an unseeded player.

This achievement was significant as he became the first qualifier to reach the final of this tournament in two decades.

Although he lost to Diego Schwartzman, this performance garnered attention and marked him as a player to watch.

    ATP tour

In 2022, Cerúndolo’s career took off as he won his first ATP title at the Swedish Open in Bastad.

This victory was historic as it made him the first Argentine to win an ATP grass-court title since 1995.

He followed this success by winning two more titles later that year: the Eastbourne International and another title at the Croatia Open Umag.

By 2023, Cerúndolo had firmly established himself within the top 30 of the ATP rankings.

His performances at Grand Slam tournaments showcased his growth as a player; he reached the third round of the Australian Open and advanced to the fourth round of the French Open.

Notably, he recorded impressive victories against highly ranked players such as Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev, further solidifying his reputation on the tour.

    Accolades

Cerúndolo has won three ATP singles titles: the 2022 Bastad Open, the 2023 Eastbourne International, and the 2024 Croatia Open.

His victory at the 2022 Bastad Open marked him as the first Argentine to win an ATP grass-court title since 1995, highlighting his versatility across different surfaces.

In terms of rankings, Cerúndolo reached a career-high ATP singles ranking of No. 19 on June 19, 2023.

This achievement placed him among the top players in the world and was a significant milestone in his career. He has also recorded a career singles win-loss record of 102-89 as of late 2024.

Cerúndolo’s Grand Slam performances have been commendable, with his best results being a fourth-round finish at the French Open in both 2023 and 2024, and a third-round appearance at the Australian Open in 2023.

Additionally, he has made it to the second round of Wimbledon and the US Open in both 2023 and 2024.

One of his most significant achievements came in November 2024 when he registered his 100th career win by defeating top seed Andrey Rublev at the Paris Masters.
