Gachagua to make announcement on February 9 in address

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua announced he will on February 9, 2025 present an interim report outlining Kenyans’ preferred form of governance they want.

He spoke on Sunday at a church event in Murang’a.

He said he had delayed making a political announcement because he is still gathering feedback from across the country.

“I have received many perspectives, and I want to analyze them carefully before making a pronouncement. We must avoid past mistakes of boarding someone else’s political bus without having our own,” he said.

Gachagua further criticised the current tax policies, specifically targeting the controversial housing levy and other deductions affecting workers.

He assured salaried Kenyans that a new administration would abolish “illegal tax policies” to restore their purchasing power.

“Payslips have been raided, leaving Kenyans struggling financially. We will restore dignity by abolishing oppressive taxes on both public and private sector workers,” he said.

Gachagua also warned against the government’s scheme to disrespect Mt. Kenya leaders and manipulate the region’s political landscape with financial incentives.

He claimed that the money used to sway Mt. Kenya voters was “tainted,” originating from questionable sources within State House and Karen.

“If you receive that money, don’t mix it with your clean money. It is blood money from our children who have been killed,” he cautioned.

The former DP accused the government of attempting to revive criminal gangs to incite violence in the Mt. Kenya region for political gain.

“They want Kikuyus to fight among themselves so Ruto can sit back and laugh. We will not allow the revival of criminal gangs. What happened in Embu will not happen again,” he warned.

Gachagua made the announcement while attending a church service at Almighty God Ministries in Mathioya, Murang’a County, with his allies, among them Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu. Gatanga MP Edward Muriu, Maragua MP Mary Wamaua and Naivasha MP Jane Kihara.

The church gathering turned into a platform for strong criticism on the current administration and its policies.

Naivasha MP Jane Kihara launched a scathing attack on Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, claiming that he lacks the same political standing as Gachagua.

She claimed that Kindiki was only appointed by President William Ruto, whereas Gachagua was elected by millions of Kenyans.

“Kindiki, leave Gachagua alone. What Gachagua is telling Kenyans is the truth,” Kihara stated.

The leaders also addressed the ongoing debate on enforced disappearances and abductions.

Kihara defended Attorney General Justin Muturi’s stance on abductions.

Mary Wamaua criticized environment CS Aden Duale and urging him to refer to constitutional provisions before requesting Muturi’s resignation.

“You have no moral authority to ask Muturi to resign. Read the constitution on what it says if the government is fed up with Muturi,” she said.

Joe Nyutu urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to respect protected constituencies during the ongoing boundary review process, cautioning against merging or dismantling them.

On the subject of abductions, he claimed that while the government had physically eliminated members of Generation Z (Gen Z), their spirits “linger.”
