Gianluigi Donnarumma, often known as Gigio, is an Italian professional footballer born on 25 February 1999 in Castellammare di Stabia, near Naples.
A towering goalkeeper widely regarded as one of the finest in the world, he currently plays for Premier League club Manchester City and serves as captain of the Italy national team.
Coming from a working-class family with strong football roots in southern Italy, Donnarumma has combined early technical promise with mental resilience, becoming a key figure for both club and country.
Siblings
Gianluigi has an older brother, Antonio Donnarumma, born on 7 July 1990, and a sister named Nunzia.
Antonio is also a professional goalkeeper and has been a major influence on his younger sibling’s career.
The brothers grew up together in Castellammare di Stabia, where Antonio first inspired Gigio to take up the position between the posts.
Antonio progressed through the youth ranks at Juve Stabia and AC Milan before building a career across Serie A, Serie B, Serie C, and a spell in Greece with Asteras Tripolis.
Between 2017 and 2021 the two shared the dressing room at AC Milan, with Antonio serving as backup while providing personal support during Gigio’s high-pressure early years.
They share a close bond and still affectionately call each other “cucciolo.”
