Harry Maguire has signed a new contract with Manchester United, extending his stay at the club until June 2027, with an option for a further one-year extension.

The deal confirms the defender’s commitment to the club despite facing criticism and challenges during his time at Old Trafford.

Maguire joined United from Leicester City in 2019 in a then world-record £80 million transfer fee for a defender. Since then, he has made 266 appearances and played a key role in the club’s domestic success, including winning the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

Speaking after signing the new deal, the 33-year-old centre-back expressed pride in continuing his journey with the club.

“Representing Manchester United is a great honour, and a responsibility that fills me and my family with pride every day. I’m delighted to continue my journey with this historic club and to share in creating more memorable moments with our fans,” he said.

Maguire added that he remains optimistic about the team’s future, citing growing ambition within the squad and a strong desire to compete for major honours.

“You can sense the ambition and potential of the team. The club’s determination to compete for major trophies is clear, and I am confident that our best moments together are yet to come,” he said.

Manchester United’s Director of Football Jason Wilcox praised Maguire’s professionalism and leadership, noting his importance to a developing squad.

“Harry embodies the mentality and determination needed to excel at the club. He brings valuable experience and leadership to our ambitious young team,” Wilcox said.

Maguire was appointed club captain in 2020 by former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, but was later stripped of the armband in 2023 by Erik ten Hag. Despite the setback, he remained with the team and turned down offers from other clubs.

His form has improved in recent months under interim manager Michael Carrick, whom he has praised for his tactical approach and communication.

Maguire is currently part of a 25-man Manchester United squad training in Dublin ahead of key fixtures in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. However, he will miss the club’s upcoming match against Leeds United due to suspension.
