    Molly O’Brien McNearney was born on March 5, 1978, in Missouri and raised in St. Louis. She attended high school there before enrolling at the University of Kansas, where she studied advertising. After graduating, she initially worked in marketing before shifting careers to television writing.

    McNearney joined Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2003 as a writer’s assistant. Through years of steady work and creative contributions, she moved up to become a staff writer, then co-head writer, and eventually an executive producer.

    She is widely credited as one of the key creative forces behind the show’s humor and tone. Her success in live television led to additional high-profile opportunities, including writing for major award shows.

    In 2023, McNearney served as an executive producer for the 95th Academy Awards, which were hosted by her husband, Jimmy Kimmel.

    Marriage to Jimmy Kimmel

    Molly McNearney met Jimmy Kimmel at work, though the two did not begin dating until 2010. Kimmel was previously in a long-term relationship with comedian Sarah Silverman from 2002 to 2009.

    The couple became engaged during a trip to South Africa and married in July 2013 in Ojai, California. Their wedding was attended by several Hollywood stars, including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, and Emily Blunt.

    They have two children together, daughter Jane and son William “Billy.” Kimmel also has two children from a previous marriage.
