Vodacom is one of South Africa’s leading mobile network providers, offering various data plans and bundles for prepaid, contract, and top-up customers. These plans make it easy to stay connected, but there are times when you may want to cancel a data subscription — for example, if you no longer need automatic renewals, want to switch to another plan, or are trying to control your spending. Knowing how to cancel data subscription on Vodacom helps you manage your mobile account effectively and avoid unexpected deductions.
- Understand the Type of Data Subscription You Have
Before cancelling, identify the kind of data subscription you are on. Vodacom offers several types of data bundles, including once-off bundles, recurring bundles, and contract data add-ons.
- Once-off bundles expire after use or when they reach their validity date. They do not renew automatically.
- Recurring bundles renew automatically every month or when they run out, depending on your balance.
- Contract bundles are linked to your monthly plan and may require customer service assistance to cancel.
Knowing your subscription type helps you choose the right cancellation method.
- Cancel a Data Subscription Using a USSD Code
The easiest way to cancel a Vodacom data subscription is through a USSD code.
- Dial *135# on your Vodacom line.
- Select Services or Data Bundles from the menu.
- Choose Active Bundles or Manage Subscriptions to see your current data plans.
- Select the bundle you wish to cancel, then choose Cancel or Stop Auto-Renewal.
After completing the process, you will receive an SMS confirming that your subscription or auto-renewal has been successfully cancelled.
- Cancel Using the Vodacom App
If you prefer using your smartphone, you can cancel through the My Vodacom App, available on both Android and iOS.
- Open the app and log in with your Vodacom number and password.
- Go to the Account or Manage Services section.
- Tap on Data Bundles to view your active plans.
- Select the data subscription you want to cancel, then tap Cancel Subscription or Turn Off Auto-Renewal.
The app will immediately update your subscription status, and you will receive a confirmation message.
- Cancel via SMS or Online
Vodacom also allows users to cancel certain subscriptions via SMS. If you know the short code for your active subscription, send STOP to that number. You can also visit www.vodacom.co.za and log in to your profile to manage or cancel active bundles from the self-service portal.
- Cancel Contract or Data Add-On Plans
If your data subscription is part of a contract or a data add-on linked to your main package, you may need to contact Vodacom customer care. Call 135 from your Vodacom line or visit a Vodacom store to request cancellation. The representative will verify your details and process the cancellation for you.
- Confirm the Cancellation
After cancelling, check your bundle balance or subscription status to ensure the service is no longer active. You can do this by dialling *135#, using the My Vodacom App, or checking your next bill. Always keep your confirmation SMS or email as proof of cancellation.
