The University of South Africa (UNISA) is one of the country’s largest and most popular universities, attracting thousands of applicants each year. However, circumstances may change, and you might decide not to proceed with your application. Knowing how to cancel your UNISA application properly ensures that your record is updated and helps you avoid confusion or unnecessary communication from the university.

    1. Understand Why You May Need to Cancel

There are several reasons you might want to cancel your UNISA application. You may have been accepted to another institution, made an error in your application, or decided to postpone your studies. Cancelling your application formally allows the university to close your file and free up your space for another applicant.

    1. Log In to the UNISA Application Portal

To cancel your application, visit the official UNISA website at www.unisa.ac.za. Click on Apply for Admission and then go to the Application Status or Student Portal section. Log in using your student number, ID number, and password. This will allow you to access your application details.

    1. Review Your Application Details

Once logged in, review your submitted application carefully. Check that you are on the correct page showing your qualification choices and current status. This step helps ensure you are cancelling the right application, especially if you applied for more than one qualification.

    1. Cancel the Application Online

If the option is available, select Cancel Application or Withdraw Application on the portal. You may be asked to provide a reason for cancelling, such as “accepted elsewhere” or “no longer interested.” Confirm your decision to finalise the process. Once done, you should receive an on-screen message or email confirming that your application has been successfully cancelled.

    1. Cancel via Email (If the Online Option Is Unavailable)

If you cannot cancel through the portal, you can request cancellation by email. Send your request to applications@unisa.ac.za. In your email, include the following details:

    • Your full name
    • Your UNISA student number or ID number
    • The qualification you applied for
    • The reason for cancellation

Clearly state that you wish to cancel your UNISA application. You will receive a response once your request has been processed.

    1. Cancel in Person or Through a Regional Office

You may also visit a UNISA regional office to cancel your application manually. Bring your ID and any documents related to your application. A staff member will help you complete the cancellation process and confirm that your application has been withdrawn.

    1. Confirm Your Cancellation

After submitting your cancellation request, log back into the portal after a few days to verify that your application has been updated to “Cancelled.” Keep any email confirmation or written acknowledgment from UNISA as proof that your request was processed.
